Are you wanting to learn how to use Google analytics for your business? Or why on earth you even need to? I want to pull back the wizard of oz curtain on how I use it and WHY it has been one of the most useful free tools that helps my business.
Why do you need to know how to use Google analytics
Before we dive into the nitty-gritty, I want to tell you why you need this. Do you know how brides are finding you? What platforms are worth your time? The only way to look at all the platforms as a whole is with Google analytics. Not every market is the same and that’s why you need to know what to put your time into that works for YOUR business.
Does Pinterest bring you the best traffic? Are you getting organic hits to your site based just on how your SEO is? This is how you keep track! If you have NOT set up your analytics the go here to find all the steps to do so. Or there is always Youtube, which is my best friend when it comes to visual learning. Hello, all the tutorials!!!!
Your audience traffic
You can see traffic for any custom dates. What your seeing here is the traffic to my site for the month of May. Now, I was running ads this week so it is definitely higher than what I usually get by almost double. I really watch my analytics on here when running ads to see what ads are working. If the bounce rate is super high then I know the traffic coming from that channel isn’t really working.
What is bounce rate? It is basically how fast someone enters your site and then leaves. If I’m running an ad from Facebook and Pinterest, and all the traffic from Pinterest is averaging a bounce rate of 98%, but the traffic from Facebook is averaging 67%……….then my Facebook ad is keeping users on my site longer.
This is important to know that maybe I need to tweak my ad with Pinterest to a larger audience, change my ad altogether or check to make sure all parts are working correctly for that ad. Such as your landing page being correct and so forth.
Where are the users located that are coming to your site
Are you wanting to break into a new market? Is what your doing actually bringing new brides to your site in your area? This is where you can check.
This is SO valuable. I can see how many users on my site are from certain areas. Why is this important? If there is a ton of users on my site from certain areas and they have a very low bounce rate then I could tailor an ad for that particular location. I will then have a good chance of that ad doing well.
You can even go further to see what cities in each state!
Acquisition is something you always want to check
After I do a quick check to see where my users are coming from, I ALWAYS check the acquisition tab.
You can see how many people found you on their own (organic search). Who came from a referral (using a link from your instagram like linktree or smart bio from Tailwind). The direct hits that already knew your url and social.
My marketing guru, Dallas Crum with Inspiir marketing, wisely told me what is measured can be managed. You don’t have to totally geek out over all the numbers like me, but it is wise to sit down and figure out what is working in your business and what isn’t. That way you have a vision of what you need to change or continue to get you to where you want to be.
