I know it may sound biased coming from a wedding photographer, but trust me when I say it is the most important investment you will make. One of my absolutely gorgeous brides, Emma, reminded me why it’s good for me to advise every bride to invest in the right photographer.
Your wedding photographer is more than just a person behind a camera
I always want any bride and groom I meet to feel like I’m genuine. That I’m not just trying to sell them on hiring me just so I can get paid. Getting paid is just a bonus of what I do. I tell couples that a wedding photographer is there in every single aspect of the wedding day and I really mean it!
The only people who will be there while you are filled with nerves. When you’re trying to make sure every family member knows what to get done. They are with you when you get frustrated with any mishaps. You also will be with them at the very intimate parts of your day as the first look. When no one is around but you and your spouse to be. It’s easier and more relaxing to spend those special moments with people who feel like a friend and not just paparazzi.
Looking good in front of a camera has nothing to do with the camera itself
Did you know that how your images are going to turn out has almost nothing to do with what type of camera is used? You could walk out and buy the most expensive photography equipment. That alone will NOT create beautiful images.
In photography land, yes it’s a real place……at least mentally, photographers will joke around. We get told things like “Wow, that looks like an expensive camera! It must take great pictures”. Our favorite response is usually, “Thanks! I taught it everything it knows”. We do not mean that to come across as sarcastic. It’s because we know that the images we create have everything to do with experience, our decisions behind the camera, and our own style of shooting.
How to find the right fit
It’s kind of like dating. Spend time talking to the photographers you’re interested in. Make sure you feel like their personality is one would want to be around on your wedding day. Go here to check out my top five questions you should ask photographers.
